The works he has produced over many years as a fruit breeder, working closely with nature, are infused with the knowledge and experience he has gained through the breeding process, as well as his respect for nature, making them works that could only be produced in Shiobara.

The photographs that capture the beauty of the fruits that Masumi Shiobara has grown and their growth process, as well as the original works that utilize the fruits of her efforts, are not just beautiful, but also give a sense of dialogue with nature and the potential that fruit holds. I hope that many people will be able to see their charm.

Profile

Masumi Shiobara / Photographer

Born in Nagano Prefecture in 1974. Worked as a development engineer at a micro-processing company. After leaving the company, he took over the management of his family's orchard from his parents and currently runs the farm. While growing fruit here, he became interested in incorporating fruit into photographic art pieces and taught himself the skill.

I am a fruit farmer and have striven to create an artistic photographic record of the fruit I grow in its most visually pleasing form before it is harvested.

My artwork is similar to "botanical art" and aims to depict both precision and a level of detail combined with aesthetic beauty.
Several fruits ripen in the orchard, but not all of them are objects of beauty, either in terms of their shape or the distribution of their leaves.
Due to daily care of the plants throughout the year and changing weather conditions, the final yield of the plants varies from year to year. Many varieties are lost due to selective breeding.
It is a portrait of the fruit, so to speak, and a funeral portrait.
