All you need is the power to create.
" TOTE AS CANVAS " started with the idea that "since tote bags are made of canvas material, why not use them as canvases for painting?"
tote bag. It may have been a rugged style of canvas, and it was just a handbag for carrying things. The tote bag specialty brand “ ROOTOTE ” was born from the idea of providing more fun and excitement through tote bags that are only simple and functional.
Communicating “It’s just a carrier bag”
to design.
In 2003, he thought, "Wouldn't it be fun if people walked around the city wearing a tote bag that I drew?" CANVAS was born. It is a tote bag that allows you to enjoy expressing art in your own way, using the plain tote bag itself as a canvas. In addition, the "Tote as Canvas Art & Design Award" is held every year as a venue for presenting works. This innovative idea was highly evaluated as a communication design, and in 2004, it received the "Good Design Award" sponsored by the Japan Institute of Design Promotion.
BE AN ARTIST !
The "Tote as Canvas Art & Design Award" is held every year as a venue for art works that are expressed in their own way using "Tote as Canvas" itself as a canvas. Started in 2003, more than several thousand works have been entered so far.
After a rigorous examination by judges, including photographer Shinpei Asai, on October 10, one year after the call for entries began, the winners were announced and an exhibition of the winners was held. Just like the message "BE AN ARTIST!" written on the package of "Tote as Canvas", it is an art and design award that anyone can apply regardless of age, professional or amateur.
Tote as Canvas Art & Design Awards
1st Grand Prix work
I made it a bag to hold my belongings and everyone's images.
The memorable first Grand Prix work is Mayuge's "empty-bag". The author's comment, ``I made a bag to hold my belongings and everyone's images,'' was just right for the concept of Tote as Canvas. This work, in which only the frame is drawn, has a charm that stirs the imagination (creativity) of the viewer.
The past 18 entries can be viewed from the Tote as Canvas web museum.
